Ogee Spillway Discharge Calculator
Free-overflow discharge over an ogee-crest spillway per USACE EM 1110-2-1603. Computes the discharge coefficient C from the operating-head ratio He/Hd, applies pier and abutment contractions, and returns Q. Works for both vertical and sloped upstream faces.
Defaults: vertical-face ogee with high approach (P/Hd = 3.3), no piers, rounded abutments, design head equals operating head.
Cdesign for ogee crests at design head
| P / Hd | Cdesign (US) | Cdesign (SI) |
|---|---|---|
| ≥ 1.33 (high approach, vertical U/S face) | 4.03 | 2.225 |
| 1.00 | 3.95 | 2.18 |
| 0.50 | 3.78 | 2.09 |
| 0.20 | 3.55 | 1.96 |
| ≤ 0.10 (very low approach) | 3.20 | 1.77 |

Off-design correction C / Cdesign
| He/Hd | C / Cdesign | Crest pressure |
|---|---|---|
| 0.20 | 0.83 | positive (separation) |
| 0.40 | 0.89 | positive |
| 0.60 | 0.93 | positive |
| 0.80 | 0.97 | near atmospheric |
| 1.00 | 1.00 | atmospheric (design) |
| 1.20 | 1.03 | slightly sub-atmospheric |
| 1.33 | 1.04 | typical upper design limit |
| 1.50 | 1.06 | cavitation risk |
